YAAAAY! I'm so happy that I was able to finish this! :D
For those who knew me a year ago, I created a sketch in July 2016 of a beautiful bride. The image came to my mind in the hazy moments before waking up. I had just grabbed a notepad and quickly doodled out the image in pen. Then right before I transferred her over to canvas I had the thought that she looked like The Bride of Frankenstein, and altered her accordingly.
But I was really hesitant to paint her. Honestly, I'm an illustrator and not a painter. It's just where my talents lie. And I didn't want to destroy the drawing by adding paint. :S
Plus I was uncertain about the color scheme. Should I make it black and white? Should I make it black and white, with a green background? Should it be a flat green? Should I make it black and white, but with her skin tone in color? Should I do it all in color? I was pretty conflicted.
But my new goal to do art every day of summer (except for Sundays) meant that I could force myself to finish all the pieces that I've started over the years that have just been sitting on my art table. It's given me a focus, which I'm incredibly grateful for. :)
This is the end result! :D I am sooooooo happy with how it ended up! Which is largely due to the sheer number of different paintbrushes I had to work with: it helped me keep the colors pure and unmuddied, and allowed me to do the really small details and odd shapes, like the swirls in the green. The end result is way cooler than I anticipated upon starting out. I am really happy with it. <3
(But on a side note, is it bad that I really, REALLY love the smell of oil paints? XD Opening up my oil painting case caused a wave of nostalgia to wash over me. It's actually a pretty pleasant smell. And even though I washed my hands several times, I can still smell it on my fingers. :3 )
